One thing that had always puzzled Humphrey was how few people wanted to use the student common room. There were a couple regulars like himself but for the most part students simply stuck with their houses. This was the perfect place to meet and talk with people you didn't have classes with and in different years and houses, but for the most part it was left alone. Feeling a little bored, and not really interested in reading right now he broke out a wizard's chess board and set and started playing against himself. It was something his father had given him before his second year at Hogwarts, telling him that it always calmed him down to play whether against himself or someone else. "I wonder if I'll come to feel that way about chess." he thought aloud. Books were the things that usually calmed him down, this was more just something to pass the time that also had the benefit of making him think a little more than most games.
